Kenya's independence day

Ever since Kenya attained independence in 12th December 1963 , there are those people who have worked tirelessly to build the nation while others who are corrupt focussed on stealing from the country. We have had great leadership and bad leadership but the most un recognised people in Kenya are the local mwananchi who pays taxes but doesn't get to see the progress of the country. This post is a dedication to all the hardworking, loyal, brave Kenyans out here who never give up and today's independence is for everyone.

The lady with a gunia (sack)

on her back walking through the street cracks,

going to the market while it's still dark,

to get foodstuffs for selling to avoid lack of money.

The driver who didn't get any rest,

as he spent the night working a shift,

in the busy roads of Nairobi,

trying to be able to provide for his kids.

The man who sells newspapers,

coz his school papers didn't land him a job,

so instead of becoming a slob,

he created his opportunity by delivering daily news.

The construction workers,

who build our roads all day,

even when the weather is grey,

trying to earn some minimum wages.

The children who are up before 5am,

hurriedly preparing for school,

to study with dreams in their hearts,

of the future they wish to have.

That artist working up to 4am,

to create good music for the album,

hoping to give people some hits,

and earn him a living.

The people working that 8-5,

sacrificing their freedom,

to work for another and help build,

the nation while providing for their families.

And everyone who works,

for a livelihood daily,

contributing to our society,

we appreciate you, greatly.
